Mastercard and stablecoin infrastructure provider BVNK have unveiled a new platform that will facilitate the co-existence of traditional money and stablecoins.
The firms, in their joint announcement on October 15, 2026, stated that the newly launched Global Money Platform would enable banks, fintechs and businesses to offer multi-currency accounts, convert between regular and stablecoins, issue stablecoin-linked cards and make payments to local bank accounts.
The companies intend to roll out the services to more than 40 currencies across over 200 countries and territories in 2027. The platforms are expected to enable businesses to offer stablecoin services more efficiently by enabling the use of a single application programming interface (API) to embed the offerings.

With the API, users will be able to hold traditional currencies and stablecoins in their accounts, as well as switch between the two. Additionally, businesses will be able to issue cards that can enable users to spend their stablecoin deposits at Mastercard-affiliated merchants.
The platform will also be connected to Mastercard Move, the firm’s money transfer service, which the company touts as reaching over 17 billion endpoints. This will enable businesses to leverage the network to fund transfers to recipients through local bank and payment infrastructures.
Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Bolt Group and Almond FinTech are among the first fintechs expected to utilise the new platform. The onboarding of the companies could help expand the adoption of stablecoin payments.

The launch of the joint offering marks a significant step in Mastercard and BVNK’s partnership, which has been bolstered by the former’s acquisition of the latter. Mastercard announced its intention to buy up to 100% of BVNK’s shares last March, in a deal worth $1.8 billion. The new platform is the first major initiative to emerge from the partnership since the closing of the deal in August 2026.
Mastercard has been experimenting with stablecoins, having announced the launch of 24/7 on-chain stablecoin settlement, including weekends and public holidays, in June. The company has also partnered with SoFi to enable stablecoin settlement with its Mastercard earlier this year, which will see the fintech’s dollar-pegged stablecoin accepted while banks retain their existing deposit processing infrastructure.
Beyond settlement, the new platform will allow Mastercard to enable accounts, conversion and card-linked spending. Mastercard stated that it intends to support other forms of digital money, including tokenised deposits, in the future. However, it has yet to release a timeline for the move.
The latest move is part of Mastercard’s pivot towards building more infrastructure around stablecoins. The push comes as the firm seeks to capitalise on the rising popularity of the crypto assets, which have experienced significant volatility over the last year. However, the rate at which the company’s offerings, including the new platform, will gather steam will depend on factors such as the onboarding of businesses and regulators’ response.
