Ledger announced a new Android device, Atom, preloaded with Solana Mobile’s Seeker app. The announcement comes days after Ledger investigated a security issue involving modified hardware wallets sold by a reseller.
The device will provide users with access to apps connected to the Solana decentralized application network, while also providing security features to crypto transactions. The announcement was made in Paris on October 15, 2026, and names Solana Mobile as Ledger’s first expansion partner to develop hardware.

The Seeker app will provide users with a cryptocurrency wallet linked to Solana’s decentralised application store. Solana Mobile expects over 1,500 applications to be available on Atom, supporting trade, payments, gaming and artificial intelligence.
Atom will run on the Android Open Source Project, which provides the foundational software for the Android mobile operating system. It will also feature a Secure Element, a specialised microchip that stores sensitive information and helps to secure transactions.
Ledger says the device’s screen and touch controls will be physically separated from the Android space. Users will be able to approve transactions using the Seeker app through Atom’s Secure Mode, supported by the company’s operating system and secure microchip.

The device is still in development, and Ledger announced a Founders Edition reservation option with a refundable deposit of $100, with a stated reservation price of $849. The company estimates that deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2027. It has warned that the final price, features and specifications may change before launch.
The partnership could benefit both firms, with Solana Mobile expanding its application reach, while Ledger benefits from Solana’s existing mobile ecosystem. The company has reported more than 200,000 devices sold across its Saga and Seeker phones, supported by over $13 billion in transaction volume. These figures were reported by the company and have not been independently audited.

However, security is a key concern, with Ledger confirming that some devices sold through the CryptoBilis reseller had unauthorised hardware implants. According to the company’s security team, the implant could read the 24-word recovery phrase displayed when setting up the device and transmit the information over a mobile network.
A recovery phrase is a series of words that can give someone access to a cryptocurrency wallet. If criminals obtain it, they can potentially steal the funds in the wallet. Ledger said the implant did not alter its Secure Element or operating system, but the incident highlighted risks around devices sold through third-party distributors.
Ledger has said it introduced additional features to detect tampering, including changing the way devices are stored, handled and handed over to customers. It has also asked authorized resellers to pause sales in affected areas to investigate the issue.
The Atom launch, therefore, highlights two key issues: the expansion of mobile crypto applications and the need for device security. While the new device promises additional features, its success will be tested once it reaches customers.
For users, the incident serves as a reminder to buy hardware wallets from trusted sources and not share their recovery phrases with anyone. Even a device from a known brand can be compromised if it has been tampered with before reaching the customer.
