Such an intense investment activity occurred in the context of decreasing fundraising among crypto companies. This year, they raised $1.4 billion in June, down significantly from $3.8 billion in April. The number of fundraising rounds decreased as well, from 89 in May to 61 in June. However, July started positively, with crypto ventures raising around $456 million in 12 funding rounds.
According to the leadership of Coinbase Ventures, the company will continue to focus on the long-term prospects, rather than on market cycles. As stated in the firm’s statement, such areas as stablecoins, AI-based blockchain applications and tokenized financial markets will keep offering interesting possibilities for startups.
Over the six months period, Coinbase Ventures participated in seven funding rounds of payment protocols, four deals regarding decentralized finance projects, and three deals each regarding blockchain infrastructure and real-world asset tokenization.
According to the data of CryptoRank, DeFi, payments, and AI had received the largest amounts of venture capital over the past year, while infrastructure projects kept receiving strong support from investors.
Despite the reduction of the number of active venture funds compared to last year, the major venture capitalists still believe in blockchain innovation and therefore make investments.
