Spain and Argentina’s strong performances in the FIFA World Cup 2026 led to one of the biggest fan token burn events ever in Chiliz’s Burn to Glory campaign. As both teams moved forward in the tournament, millions of fan tokens were permanently taken out of circulation, lowering supply and boosting community involvement. At the same time, Chiliz expanded fan token futures trading and started new trading competitions, showing how blockchain is connecting fans with major sports events.
Following Spain’s 2-1 victory over Belgium, more than 1.16 million SPAIN Fan Tokens, valued at roughly $649,000, were burned. The latest burn reduced the token’s circulating supply to around 27.25 million.
Spain is now at the top of the Burn to Glory leaderboard, with almost three million fan tokens removed during the tournament. If the team wins its semi-final, that number will likely go up even more.
Argentina has also played a big part in the campaign. After beating Switzerland to reach the semi-finals, the team has seen 160,000 ARG Fan Tokens burned so far. If Argentina keeps advancing, its treasury burn allocation will go up under the campaign rules.
Although Belgium and Portugal have already been eliminated, their fan token communities also participated. Belgium recorded approximately 870,000 BELG token burns, while Portugal finished the tournament with around 208,000 POR tokens permanently removed.

Beyond the World Cup, Chiliz continues expanding its ecosystem. Crypto exchange LBank has introduced perpetual futures for ARG and POR fan tokens and plans to add futures contracts for leading football clubs, including Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Arsenal.
The company has also started weekly trading competitions on its Vibe Trading and Battle Trade platforms, letting fans compete while World Cup matches are happening.
Chiliz is also getting ready to enter the U.S. college sports market after getting regulatory approval. The company plans to launch college sports fan tokens through the Socios app in the 2026 season.
On the blockchain side, Chiliz Chain recently finished the Cancun, Prague, and Pascal network upgrades, which improved Ethereum compatibility, wallet features, and network performance. Staking has also grown, with total staked CHZ now at 990 million tokens.
