China’s DeepSeek has introduced an experimental artificial intelligence model with image-processing capabilities, expanding its latest generation of AI systems beyond text-based applications.
The company’s V4 Flash platform is extended by the new model, DeepSeek-V4-Flash-Vision-Exp. The new system, in contrast to previous text-focused iterations, enables users to upload screenshots and images and request that the AI evaluate their contents or carry out tasks based on visual data.
DeepSeek-V4-Flash-Vision-Exp is now live on the DeepSeek API Platform! 🚀

DeepSeek said the experimental model retains the text capabilities of V4 Flash, including reasoning, agentic tasks and general knowledge. The addition of visual processing effectively moves the system into the growing multimodal AI segment, where models can work across different types of information such as text and images.
The development comes as competition among global AI companies intensifies. Firms including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and other technology companies are increasingly developing models that can understand and interact with multiple forms of data.
DeepSeek has attracted considerable attention in the global AI market for developing models that compete with leading systems while focusing heavily on efficiency and cost. Its latest vision model represents another attempt to expand that competitive position.
Multimodal abilities are becoming more and more important for AI as they enable actual usage of the technology in real-world scenarios involving images, not only natural language prompts. The user can leverage the power of such an AI for image analysis, document scanning or research, and other activities.
DeepSeek called their recent release experimental, so the model is not finalized yet and is subject to further updates and improvements. However, the introduction shows that the company is determined to diversify its AI offerings.
The development also underscores the competitive nature of the AI industry, where different firms strive to release new products and update existing ones to make them more capable, efficient, powerful, multifunctional and accessible.
