- Telegram will introduce a native non-custodial Gram wallet for more than 1 billion users this summer, according to Pavel Durov.
- Fee-free Gram transfers will be possible because of the integrated wallet, which also gives users complete control over their private keys through self-custody.
- Compared to the current @wallet bot, Telegram’s new wallet will be integrated directly into the app, making cryptocurrency payments simpler.
Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has revealed that the messaging app will launch a native non-custodial Gram wallet this summer. This could provide more than 1 billion monthly active users access to self-custodial cryptocurrency. The function would be one of the biggest incorporations of cryptocurrencies into a widely used consumer application if it were to launch successfully.
Telegram users will soon be able to send Gram instantaneously with no transaction fees using a wallet integrated into the service, according to a post on X by Pavel Durov. He called it the “largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in human history.” Users will be able to manage their cryptocurrency without relying on a third party due to the wallet’s complete control over their private keys.

Telegram Revives Gram As TON Ecosystem Enters A New Era
The TON blockchain just got upgraded and is now 10× faster.
Block rate increased 6×.
Transactions are now instant, subsecond.
This was step 1 of 7 to Make TON Great Again (MTONGA).
Next step: cut the already low transaction fees by 6×.

The Open Network (TON) declared earlier this year that it would change the name of its native cryptocurrency from Toncoin to Gram. In its 2018 blockchain white paper, Telegram initially used the moniker Gram. After years of development by the TON community, Durov said the modification returns the project to its original vision.
The new Gram wallet will be integrated straight into Telegram, in contrast to the current @wallet bot, which is run by The Open Platform and mainly operates in custodial mode until users actively enable self-custody. This makes cryptocurrency transfers as easy as sending a message, as users won’t have to look for or activate a separate bot.
Gram Token Surges 7% Following Pavel Durov’s Wallet Reveal
Although Telegram has not yet revealed a precise launch date or technical specifications, there are still a number of significant questions that need to be addressed. The company has not stated which cryptocurrencies other than Gram would be supported, whether the native wallet will replace or coexist with the existing @wallet bot, or how private key management will be made easier for novice cryptocurrency users.
Gram’s price increased by around 7% following Durov’s announcement, surpassing $1.52. The token is still far below its May 2026 peak and considerably below its prior record prices, indicating the continued weakness of the cryptocurrency market as a whole.
The cryptocurrency path of Telegram has not been simple. The business raised $1.7 billion for its blockchain initiative in 2018. But after negotiating a settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which asserted that Gram tokens were unregistered securities, it ended the project in 2020. Community developers continued the blockchain under the name Toncoin prior to Telegram reiterating its support for the ecosystem and endorsing the current return to the Gram brand.
