- Metaplanet transferred 4,800 Bitcoin to Coinbase Prime, valued at around $377 million.

- Whether the Bitcoin transfers are for selling or custody purposes cannot be determined with certainty.
Japanese Bitcoin treasury company transfers 10,270 BTC to Coinbase Prime this week as the market watches its next move. Metaplanet has transferred another 4,800 Bitcoin (BTC), worth nearly $377 million, to Coinbase Prime, adding to a series of large transactions that have sparked speculation about a potential sale.
The Japanese Bitcoin treasury company sent 4,800 BTC to Coinbase Prime today. The latest transfer follows a 2,000 BTC transaction worth about $155.5 million two days earlier.
Metaplanet sent 3,331 BTC, which is worth almost $266 million, three days ago. Another 139 BTC, which is $11.1 million, was sent six days ago. The transfers added up to 10,270 BTC, which is around $806.3 million, in just one week.
Metaplanet Bitcoin Transfers Trigger Market Speculation
The large Bitcoin movements have led to questions about whether Metaplanet is preparing to sell part of its treasury.
Onchain Lens, an X-based blockchain data account, suggested that Bitcoin was “likely to sell.” However, other market observers offered a different explanation, pointing out that Coinbase Prime could be used for custody or other institutional purposes rather than an immediate sale. At this stage, there is no conclusive evidence that Metaplanet has sold the transferred Bitcoin.
Metaplanet remains one of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders. The company reportedly holds 35,102 BTC, currently valued at around $2.75 billion. If the entire 10,270 BTC transferred to Coinbase were eventually sold, it would represent more than 29% of the company’s reported Bitcoin holdings. The potential move is therefore significant for both Metaplanet and the wider corporate Bitcoin treasury market.
Corporate Bitcoin Treasury Strategy Faces New Test
Metaplanet’s latest transactions come as Bitcoin treasury companies face changing market conditions and increased scrutiny over their accumulation strategies.
While some firms are reducing their Bitcoin exposure, others continue to raise capital to expand their holdings. French Bitcoin treasury company Capital B recently announced a €21 million private share placement aimed at purchasing 270 BTC. This contrast highlights the different strategies emerging among companies that use Bitcoin as a treasury asset.
For Metaplanet, the key question is what happens to the 10,270 BTC now held at Coinbase Prime. If the transfers are related to custody or institutional management, the company’s Bitcoin strategy may remain unchanged. If the coins are sold, however, the move could mark a major shift in its treasury approach.
