- Kalshi Prime and BitGo introduced HODL Margining, which lets qualified customers take out US dollars in exchange for Bitcoin, Ether, and some stablecoins.
- This cryptocurrency-backed loan service helps traders meet the margin needs for futures without having to sell their digital assets.
- Kalshi Katalyst offers the loans, and BitGo Bank & Trust is the network’s custodian.
Kalshi Prime and BitGo have started a service that lets people borrow US dollars. This service is for people who need money for futures trading. They can do this without having to sell their Bitcoin, Ether, or stablecoins.
The service is called HODL Margining. It lets traders use their cryptocurrency as security. They can do this while keeping the cryptocurrency safe in storage.
BitGo Bank & Trust is the first custodian in @Kalshi Prime’s HODL Margining network.
Eligible customers can borrow USD against BTC, ETH, or eligible stablecoins to fund margin for perpetual futures without first selling, keeping legal ownership of their holdings, subject to Katalyst’s security interest.
Pledged digital assets stay in segregated qualified custody and cold storage at BitGo Bank & Trust, rather than moving to a third-party venue, so customers can put their crypto to work while knowing exactly where their collateral sits.

BitGo announced this on October 22. The money from the loan goes into the customer’s Kalshi Prime account. This money is used for margin products on KalshiEX.
Kalshi’s HODL Margining Explained
Kalshi Katalyst, a lending affiliate of Kalshi Prime, provides US dollar loans. Customers can pledge eligible digital assets held with BitGo Bank & Trust or another participating custodian.
Collateral stays in client accounts instead of moving to the trading platform or turning into cash. BitGo Bank & Trust, a national trust bank regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), is the network’s first custodian. BitGo gives up to $250 million in insurance for assets, but that depends on policy terms.
Traders Can Access Margin Without Selling Crypto
Kalshi Prime CEO Jeff Bandman said the service gives customers another way to meet margin requirements while retaining their cryptocurrency holdings.
BitGo CEO and co-founder Mike Belshe also highlighted the ability to borrow against digital assets while keeping them in custody.
The offering covers perpetual futures and other eligible margin products traded through KalshiEX. It gives qualified customers another financing option without requiring them to sell their existing crypto holdings.
