In essence, tokenized assets involve tokenizing or digitizing traditional investments like shares and funds on a blockchain. As financial institutions tokenize more assets on a blockchain, the need for a seamless way of facilitating payments when the blockchain tokens are purchased or sold arises. One of the ways of achieving this is through stablecoins, which have inherent mechanisms to maintain their value, for example, being backed by a fiat currency like the U.S. dollar.
The partnership between Anchorage and Securitize will enable the former to directly issue stablecoins to institutional investors, thus eliminating intermediaries. In other words, the two companies will remove an extra layer in the flow of transactions between tokenized assets and digital dollars. According to the press release, Securitize will be able to mint and burn stablecoins through Anchorage Digital Bank. This way, the intermediation of other stablecoin issuers will be eliminated, and institutional investors will get direct access to dollar-backed stablecoins.
Securitize offers software solutions for investment funds, and its blockchain infrastructure helps institutional investors trade on blockchains. The company counts Apollo, BlackRock, BNY, Hamilton Lane, KKR and VanEck among its clients and has raised more than $4 billion in assets on its platform.
Anchorage Digital, on the other hand, will undertake to custody and settlements of the assets. Custody refers to the safekeeping of property, while settlements involve the process of completing a transaction by transferring assets and payments between the buyer and seller. The two crypto firms aim to streamline institutional blockchain transactions by combining custody and settlement services.
The partnership comes as RWA.xyz data cited in the press release shows that the market for tokenized real-world assets grew from approximately $23 billion at the end of 2025 to $38.95 billion.
As institutional investors tokenize more assets on a blockchain, it is expected that financial institutions will require stablecoins to purchase the digital assets. The reason is that banks and other financial institutions require interbank payments, which are settled in U.S. dollars, to buy digital assets on a blockchain.
According to the press release, Anchorage Digital’s co-founder and CEO Nathan McCauley commented on the partnership by saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Securitize to deliver on the promise of institutional blockchain settlements and custody in the U.S. Anchorage was built from the ground up to issue dollar-backed stablecoins at scale, proudly supervised by the federal government.”
Besides, the collaboration will enable Securitize to onboard more institutional investors to its network. Notably, Anchorage Digital and Binance have a partnership whereby the latter buys and sells blockchains tokens with institutional investors.
In other words, institutional investors can use Binance’s exchange to sell or buy digital assets with dollars while relying on the custody services provided by Anchorage Digital’s Atlas infrastructure. Anchorage noted that Binance partnership will see the launch of an off-exchange settlement where institutional investors can send assets or cash to Anchorage’s custody services.
On the other hand, Anchorage was forced to lay off approximately 17% of its staff recently. Crypto Times published an article reporting on the mass layoffs at Anchorage Digital, which occurred in the wake of crypto winter. The publication stated that the company had not revealed the number of employees it had at the time of the layoffs.
