Elon Musk has predicted that xAI’s upcoming Grok 4.7 could outperform all current leading AI models, even as the company has just released Grok 4.6. Musk said he expects Grok 4.7 to “exceed all current models” and believes it could have a particular advantage in real-world engineering tasks. His comments come as xAI competes closely with OpenAI and Anthropic in the fast-moving artificial intelligence market. Musk also acknowledged Anthropic’s progress, calling it a “great company” and saying it would probably release improved models soon.

The comments followed the release of Grok 4.6, which comes just over a month after Grok 4.5. xAI said the new model has been designed for longer-running AI agents, more complex interactive tasks and demanding visual workloads.

According to xAI, Grok 4.6 reaches frontier-level performance on several benchmarks covering agentic coding and knowledge work. The company has also compared the model with competing systems from OpenAI and Anthropic.

One benchmark highlighted in the supplied material is the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index. Grok 4.6 was reported to score 60 in one assessment, while OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol scored 61 and Anthropic’s Fable 5 led by another point. The supplied material also says Grok 4.6 ranked highly on GDPVal-AA v2, AA-Briefcase and Harvey LAB benchmarks.

The model is already available through Grok Build, Cursor, Grok Bot and the API, according to xAI.

Musk has pointed to the data used to train future versions of Grok as a major advantage. He specifically highlighted what he described as a unique SpaceX training corpus and said he would be surprised if another AI model performed better than Grok 4.7 at real-world engineering.

The rapid release schedule is also notable. Musk had previously suggested that Grok 4.7 could arrive only weeks after Grok 4.6, raising the possibility of another major model release as early as next month.

The latest developments have also attracted attention from investors. The supplied material says SpaceX shares rose more than 6% around the Grok 4.6 release and were trading near $142, while the stock had gained more than 24% over five days and moved above its $135 IPO price.

Morgan Stanley has also presented a bullish scenario for SpaceX, with analyst Adam Jones putting a potential value of $600 per share on the stock. The bank’s view includes the potential of SpaceX’s AI business, with Grok positioned as an intelligence layer and Cursor AI also playing a role.

Despite the growing ambitions, prediction-market sentiment remains cautious. Data cited from Polymarket put only a 5% chance on xAI having the best AI model by the end of the year.

For now, Grok 4.6 is the model investors and developers can actually test, while Grok 4.7 remains a future promise. Musk’s prediction sets a high bar for the next version as xAI continues its race with OpenAI and Anthropic to build increasingly capable AI systems.
