In a reduce-only mode, customers cannot create new futures trades or expand their positions. However, they can cut margin, put in place stop-loss orders, and exit existing positions. Spot trading, deposits, and withdrawals continued operating normally.
A CoinDCX spokesperson told CoinDesk that the affected liquidity provider is Binance, which has been managing a major security incident since October 29.
Binance Named As The Liquidity Provider
CoinDCX initially cited ‘recent developments impacting a global liquidity provider’ without naming the party in its public announcement. In a follow-up statement, a spokesperson confirmed the exchange sources a significant portion of its futures liquidity from large global venues, including Binance.
With Binance having suspended its own withdrawals and operations in the wake of the $6.3 billion breach, the downstream effect on CoinDCX’s futures liquidity pipeline made operating the full futures book impractical during the disruption.
User Funds & Spot Trading Unaffected
CoinDCX confirmed that customer funds are secure and the restriction is limited strictly to futures. There is no timeline for when full futures functionality will be restored, as the exchange said it is monitoring developments at its liquidity provider.
The event reflects a ripple effect of the Binance breach reaching exchanges globally, as venues that source pricing, depth, or hedging capacity from Binance face operational constraints while the exchange remains in a restricted state.
