With support from Coinbase Ventures and BlackRock, Flowdesk has obtained a complete broker-dealer license in Dubai, allowing the institutional cryptocurrency market maker to offer regulated broker-dealer services to institutional and qualified clients. Flowdesk’s local firm, Flowdesk Omega FZE, received the license from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), the company said on Tuesday. The clearance boosts Flowdesk’s position in one of the world’s expanding digital asset marketplaces and increases its capacity to assist professional investors in and from Dubai.

As Flowdesk extends its regulated activities throughout key financial centers, the licence represents a significant step. Additionally, the organization has been authorized in France as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework of the European Union.

The most well-known use of Flowdesk is as an institutional cryptocurrency market maker. By supplying liquidity and facilitating more effective deal completion for buyers and sellers, market makers play a significant role in the financial markets. Their involvement in cryptocurrency has grown in significance as institutional investors seek more regulated access to digital assets and deeper liquidity.

Flowdesk may now provide its broker-dealer services to institutional and qualified clients within VARA’s regulatory framework thanks to the Dubai clearance. By doing this, the business may be able to establish stronger ties with financial institutions and professional investors who want to engage in the digital asset market in a regulated setting.

The action also highlights Dubai’s increasing significance in the institutional cryptocurrency market. The emirate has drawn a variety of cryptocurrency businesses looking to start operations in the area and has been striving to create a legislative framework for virtual assets.

Broker-dealers are increasingly acting as a link between digital assets and traditional finance. They can help institutional customers with market access and regulatory needs, arrange deals, and supply liquidity. The role of regulated intermediaries is growing in significance as more conventional financial businesses enter the cryptocurrency space.

The most recent permission from Flowdesk coincides with the entry of other cryptocurrency companies into regulated brokerage services. Wintermute, a cryptocurrency market maker, opened a US broker-dealer earlier this month, enabling the business to trade stocks and options.

The action demonstrates how digital asset companies are progressively branching out into conventional financial markets in addition to cryptocurrency.  Building infrastructure that enables conventional broker-dealers to manage digital assets is also gaining popularity.

More than 150 broker-dealers will receive digital asset trading and custody infrastructure thru OTS Link ATS, an alternative trading system, according to plans unveiled in July by digital asset infrastructure provider BitGo and securities marketplace operator OTC Markets.
