Bitget is set to begin restoring cryptocurrency withdrawals from September 28 after a major security incident resulted in unauthorized transfers estimated at approximately $387.5M.
Withdrawals Return In Phases, Starting With Bitcoin
The cryptocurrency exchange believed withdrawals will return in phases, beginning with Bitcoin at 08:00 UTC on September 28. Ethereum withdrawals are planned to resume on September 29, while USDT withdrawals will follow on September 30. Withdrawals containing other tokens, fiat currencies and P2P services are expected to restart by October 2.
The phased approach comes after Bitget temporarily suspended withdrawals following the September 24 security breach. According to the exchange, the incident involved its wallet infrastructure and resulted in unauthorized movement of assets. Bitget has said that customer account balances were not affected by the incident.

The exchange also said the vulnerability responsible for the breach has been identified and addressed. Cybersecurity companies Mandiant and SlowMist are supporting the investigation into the incident and the movement of the stolen assets.
Trading and deposits continued during the withdrawal suspension, according to Bitget. The exchange has emphasized that the phased restoration is designed to allow additional security checks before each withdrawal category is reopened.
Exchange Security Back In The Spotlight
The incident has changed attention on security risks surrounding centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, predominantly the systems used to manage large volumes of digital assets.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen is also scheduled to join in a community AMA on September 28, where the exchange is anticipated to provide further details about the security incident and retrieval process.
The refurbishment of withdrawals will be meticulously watched by users and the wider cryptocurrency market as Bitget works to return its platform to normal operations following the security breach.
