Polygon Labs has acquired Coinme, cementing its position as a leading US payments enabler and bolstering its reach in the regulated financial services space nationwide.
The deal combines the assets of the acquired money transmitter with the Open Money Stack platform developed by Polygon to provide digital payments and money movement solutions based on blockchain technology.
BREAKING: Polygon Labs is now a U.S.-regulated payments business.
The Coinme acquisition is complete. It brings regulated U.S. money movement into Polygon Open Money Stack.

As a result, the combined entity is licensed and exempt in all but two states, with 37 money transmitter licenses and 11 exemptions across the country, enabling it to provide payment services to millions of users and process financial transactions nationwide.
Coinme is registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), the US government agency that oversees anti-money laundering regulations for financial service companies. The acquisition is part of a wider effort by Polygon to establish a presence in the US-regulated payments and financial applications space.
Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Coinme is joining @0xPolygon.
After a decade of building regulated crypto infrastructure, we now integrate with Polygon’s Open Money Stack, building the rails for the next wave of crypto and stable coin payments.

The combined platform will enable businesses that require the underlying payment infrastructure to operate their operations more smoothly and efficiently.
A number of firms, including Tazapay, Mesh, Toku and Kira, have already signed up to the network, which will facilitate their ability to move money between customers, companies, and systems.
In addition to the acquisition, Polygon announced a $250M investment in the firm in January, which also included Sequence, a blockchain infrastructure provider.
Polygon’s blockchain technology enables applications and transactions involving digital assets. By combining that with the existing regulatory permissions and payment services of Coinme, Polygon is looking to enhance its offerings to businesses that are active in the regulated financial services space.
The acquisition represents a step forward for blockchain enablers that are seeking to connect digital-asset technology with traditional payments infrastructure. However, the scale of the combined network does not necessarily mean that every service is available in every state; individual services are subject to applicable regulations.
As of the time of publication, Polygon’s POL token was trading at $0.0982, down 3.38% on a 24-hour basis. The price action was unrelated to the acquisition announcement.
