  • More over 182,000 ZEC (about $80 million) moved into the new shielded pool soon after introduction, demonstrating the early adoption of Zcash’s NU6.3 “Ironwood” upgrade.
  • Ironwood replaced Orchard as Zcash’s main shielded pool and introduced more robust cryptographic privacy safeguards when it went operational on July 28 at block 3,428,143.
  • Within a day, more than 51,700 ZEC relocated to Ironwood, demonstrating an increase in user involvement in the network’s privacy shift.

As users start transferring money from the older Orchard protected pool into the network’s new privacy scheme, Zcash’s most recent privacy upgrade, NU6.3 “Ironwood,” has begun to gather traction. Shortly after the upgrade went online, more than 182,000 ZEC, valued at almost $80 million, moved into Ironwood.

One of Zcash’s most significant privacy enhancements in recent years was the Ironwood upgrade, which went live on July 28 at block 3,428,143. The update adds a new privacy infrastructure with more robust cryptographic safeguards and replaces Orchard as the network’s main shielded pool.

Over 51,700 ZEC have been transferred in the past 24 hours, and approximately 182,001 ZEC have joined the Ironwood pool, according to Zcash migration tracking statistics. As consumers progressively embrace the new privacy system, the early migration is an important step.

Zcash Users Begin Moving Funds From Orchard To Ironwood Pool

The Orchard pool was the biggest protected pool on the network prior to Ironwood’s introduction, holding about 3.5 million ZEC. Approximately 5% of Orchard’s balance has already undergone relocation.

The shift isn’t automatic, though. Users of Zcash must willingly use the network’s migration mechanism to transfer their money from Orchard to Ironwood. Orchard’s balance will gradually decline as users transfer their assets because it no longer accepts new shielded deposits.

The switch to Ironwood came after Orchard’s proof system was found to have a possible security flaw earlier this year. Theoretically, the vulnerability might have made it possible to produce fake ZEC inside the protected pool.

Ironwood Becomes New Standard For Private Zcash Transactions

Sean Bowe and engineers from Shielded Labs and the Zcash Open Development Lab, among other Zcash developers, stated that there was no proof that the problem had been exploited on the live network.

While Ironwood was created as a long-term substitute for Orchard, the issue was momentarily resolved by the NU6.2 emergency patch.

Now that NU6.3 is operational, Ironwood handles all new private transactions. To allow users to enjoy the new privacy features, wallets and exchanges must support the modified transaction format.

Zcash market activity has not changed despite the significant network change. With a market capitalization of about $7.77 billion and a circulating supply of about 16.79 million ZEC, ZEC was trading close to $462.85.

Although the price has lately dropped, trading volume has remained active, indicating that market participation has not been greatly impacted by the update.

It is anticipated that the Ironwood migration would occur over a long time. There are still about 581,000 ZEC in the older Sapling pool and about 3.5 million ZEC in Orchard.
