USA₮, the U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank and backed by Tether, has officially launched on the Celo blockchain, extending the regulated stablecoin beyond Ethereum for the first time.
an official blog post. Through the network’s integrated fee abstraction scheme, it becomes the first network where users may pay transaction costs directly in the stablecoin.
Tether’s ecosystem on Celo, where it already offers native USD₮ and XAUt0, its omnichain gold-backed coin, is expanded by the integration.
The option to utilize USA₮ as a gas currency is one of the integration’s main benefits.
The option to utilize USA₮ as a gas currency is one of the integration’s main benefits. Celo permits authorized ERC-20 assets to operate as gas currencies, in contrast to many blockchain networks that demand users retain a separate native token in order to pay transaction fees. This implies that users do not need to get CELO tokens in order to deal using USA₮.
Stablecoins now make up over 50% of the network’s gas charge payments, according to Celo, indicating the increasing usage of digital currency for routine blockchain transactions.
According to Marek Olszewski, CEO of Celo Core Co., consumers who currently rely on stablecoins now have access to another regulated payment option thanks to the integration. “Bringing Anchorage and Tether’s compliant stablecoin infrastructure to Celo is another step toward expanding on-chain financial access,” he continued.
Since its debut on Ethereum, USA₮ has expanded most recently with the launch of Celo.
Rumble added USA₮ to its cryptocurrency wallet earlier this year, enabling users to transfer, receive, and store the regulated stablecoin alongside Bitcoin, Tether Gold (XAU₮), and USD₮. One of USA’s first consumer-facing use cases outside of traditional banking infrastructure was the deployment.
As competition among regulated dollar-backed stablecoins intensifies, USA₮ is progressively increasing its visibility across blockchain payment networks with the addition of Celo to Ethereum.
Tether’s position in the Celo ecosystem, which now supports native USD₮ and XAUt0, is further expanded with the debut of USA₮. Stablecoin activity on Celo has increased since USD₮ was launched in 2024, and XAUt0 is also becoming more popular.
Bo Hines, CEO of Tether US, commented on the expansion, stating that the network’s expanding position in stablecoin payments was the driving force behind the decision to introduce USA₮ to Celo. “USA₮ is designed to operate where digital dollars are already being used at scale, and Celo has built that ecosystem,” he continued.
Additionally, more Celo-based apps are supporting the stablecoin. While MiniPay, Opera’s stablecoin wallet, is anticipated to add support in a future release, Valora has already integrated USA₮.
