The White House is expected to host executives from the crypto and prediction market industries on August 19, according to a Politico report, as Washington looks for a way forward on digital asset regulation.

The meeting comes at a crucial time for the US crypto industry. Aiming to provide a more comprehensive government framework for digital assets, the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act has stalled in the Senate after senators were unable to move the bill forward prior to the August break.

The White House meeting’s specifics are yet unknown. President Donald Trump’s attendance is unknown, and the agenda and guest list have not yet been finalized. Executives from traditional financial companies could also participate, according to the report.

The possible participation of traditional finance executives is significant because the crypto industry and banking sector have disagreed over some important provisions of the CLARITY Act. One of the main areas of disagreement is the treatment of stablecoin yields.

Crypto companies generally see stablecoins as an important part of the future of digital payments and financial services. Banking groups, however, have raised concerns that stablecoin products offering yields could compete with traditional bank deposits and potentially affect banks’ funding base.

An ethics provision has also become part of the discussions around the legislation. The matter remains unresolved despite the efforts of Senators Thom Tillis and Ruben Gallego to develop a bipartisan ethics package.

The White House meeting may offer a chance to speak with representatives of the relevant industry directly about these issues. There is, however, no guaranty that the meeting will produce a consensus or directly address every problem impeding the legislation.

The timing of the meeting is particularly notable because it comes just one day before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s first Innovation Advisory Committee meeting on August 20.

The CFTC has already released the agenda for that meeting. The committee will discuss crypto regulation, artificial intelligence in financial markets and prediction markets.

The first session will focus on “Crypto’s Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity.” It will examine the development of the US crypto market, state licensing regimes and the absence of a comprehensive federal market structure framework.

The committee will also discuss cybersecurity, operational resilience and crypto infrastructure. Importantly, it will consider areas where regulators could take action using their existing authority while Congress continues to work on broader digital asset legislation. This could become particularly relevant if the CLARITY Act takes longer to pass.

The CFTC’s meeting will also look at prediction markets, another area that has grown rapidly in the US. Regulators have been dealing with questions over the division of authority between federal and state governments, particularly around event contracts linked to sports and other events.

Artificial intelligence will be the third major subject. The committee is expected to discuss the use of AI in trading, compliance, surveillance and risk management, as well as autonomous systems that could execute financial transactions or manage portfolios.

The market’s expectations on the CLARITY Act have also somewhat improved as a result of the White House meeting. The likelihood that President Trump would sign the measure into law this year increased to 21% from 17% a day earlier, according to data from Polymarket.

That number does not ensure that the law will succeed; rather, it represents market opinion.
