Tether signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nairobi Securities Exchange to explore tokenized securities, blockchain-based market infrastructure and the potential use of USDt (USDT) as a settlement layer.
The MoU intends to investigate blockchain-based market infrastructure, digital asset education and real-world asset tokenization, including the possible use of its Hadron tokenization platform for tokenized securities issuance and trading, according to a Tether release on Tuesday.
In accordance with Kenyan legislation, the deal also requires the parties to evaluate immediate settlement methods and the possible application of USDT as a layer of digital settlement infrastructure.
Tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) continue to grow in popularity at the time of the agreement. According to RWA.xyz, the sector’s onchain value has increased to almost $36.8 billion, excluding stablecoins.
Because they reflect claims on offchain reserve assets, some market players also see the almost $298 billion in stablecoins that RWA.xyz independently records as RWAs. USDT is the biggest stablecoin in the world, with a market value of almost $184 billion.
