Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) may have as many AI agents as human employees within three years, according to Chairman N. Chandrasekaran. At the company’s 31st Annual General Meeting, he said AI is becoming a key growth driver and will work more with human staff.
Chandrasekaran said AI-led automation may slow hiring for now, but he believes it will create new opportunities in the long run. He also pointed out that TCS’ AI business is growing fast, with annualized revenue now over $2.3 billion.
Chandrasekaran said future workplaces will have both people and AI agents working together. He believes a company with hundreds of thousands of employees today could one day have just as many AI-powered digital assistants.
He noted that hiring patterns are already changing in tech. As AI takes over repetitive tasks, IT companies may not need to hire as many people as before. TCS has set one of its lowest fresher hiring targets in recent years.
Despite these changes, Chandrasekaran said AI is not a threat to the IT services industry. He called it the biggest opportunity in the company’s history and expects businesses to spend much more on technology as they adopt AI.
TCS is investing a lot in AI infrastructure, talent, its own platforms, and sovereign cloud capabilities. The company is also building AI operating systems that can deploy industry-specific AI agents and connect them with traditional enterprise technology.
Chandrasekaran says almost all of TCS’ revenue could involve AI by the end of the decade, as more organizations add artificial intelligence to their business processes.
