Phantom will end support for the Sui blockchain on September 24, 2026, giving users several weeks to move their SUI holdings or switch to another compatible wallet. The decision is made at a time when Sui’s DeFi activity has drastically decreased from previous highs; the data show that its entire worth is currently frozen at about $470 million. Phantom and the Sui team both agreed on the choice, although they did not rule out working together in the future.
Phantom added Sui support in January 2025, making it one of the primary Layer 1 networks that can be accessed via the wallet, along with Solana, Bitcoin, and Ethereum. The deal was initially seen as a major accomplishment for Sui because Phantom had a large user base and a strong presence among bitcoin users.
Since then, however, Sui’s market and DeFi numbers have come down sharply. While SUI hit a record high of $5.36 in January 2025, its TVL had previously surpassed $2 billion. With TVL close to $470 million and SUI selling at about $0.83, the data provided for the most recent time reveals a far smaller DeFi ecosystem.
Users of phantoms don’t always have to worry about their money. Users have been notified via the wallet that their assets are not kept inside Phantom, but rather are kept on the blockchain. As a result, they can use a different wallet that is compatible with the Sui network to access their SUI.
Users have two broad options. They can move their SUI to another wallet that supports the network, or convert their SUI into wrapped SUI on Solana before Phantom ends its support. Phantom has said it will waive its own conversion fee until the deadline.
For those choosing another Sui wallet, Slush has been recommended as an option. Users can also export their recovery phrase and move their funds to another compatible wallet.
Phantom has warned users to be particularly careful during the transition. The company will not proactively ask users for their seed phrase or recovery phrase. Any message requesting those details should therefore be treated as suspicious.
The Sui decision is also part of a wider change at Phantom. The wallet is ending support for Monad on August 26, suggesting that it is reviewing its multichain strategy rather than making a decision based only on Sui’s recent performance.
For Sui, however, losing support from a major wallet is still significant. Easy access through popular wallets can play an important role in attracting users, liquidity and developers to a blockchain.
The immediate impact will be on Phantom users holding SUI. The longer-term question is whether other wallets step in to serve those users and whether Sui can rebuild the activity it enjoyed during its stronger period.
