NYSE Advances Onchain Settlement For Tokenized Securities

Months after announcing plans for a specialized digital trading platform, New York Stock Exchange President Lynn Martin stated on August 10 that the exchange is still building infrastructure for onchain settlement of tokenized securities.

Martin also acknowledged that NYSE took part in The Depository Trust Company’s July tokenization plan when speaking at a National Assembly seminar in Seoul.

The comments offer a new update on a project that has progressed from an early development announcement to actual industry testing. Since the NYSE originally revealed the platform in January, further information about how tokenized securities may integrate into the current U.S. market infrastructure has been made available by regulatory filings and its involvement in DTC’s July production transactions.

On January 19, NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange made the platform’s initial announcement. The proposed location will integrate blockchain-based post-trade infrastructure with the NYSE’s Pillar matching engine. ICE stated that it will provide stablecoin financing, fractional shares, dollar-denominated orders, instant settlement, and round-the-clock trading.

Both tokenized copies of conventional securities and securities produced natively in tokenized form would be supported within the distinct digital venue, subject to regulatory permissions. Conventional dividend and governance rights would be retained by holders. Additionally, the system is being built to accommodate several blockchain networks for custody and settlement.

Instead of developing an offshore tokenized stock product, the endeavor is part of a larger effort to introduce blockchain settlement into regulated U.S. stocks, as previously disclosed in the exchange’s January plans. In Seoul, Martin stated that the NYSE believes the sector is at a “critical turning point between traditional finance and DeFi.”

According to Martin, the NYSE took part in DTC’s tokenization experiment in July. Among the more over thirty financial and digital asset firms engaged in live production transactions that were finished on July 15, DTCC independently verified NYSE. BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Nasdaq, Circle, Ondo Finance, Citadel Securities, and Vanguard were among the other participants.

The exercise transformed securities stored at DTC into tokenized representations and used them in actual transactions, according to the DTCC announcement. Equity delivery vs payment, Treasury and repo transactions, securities lending, collateral pledges, equity transfers, and central counterparty margin procedures were all tested. Both the public Canton network and the private Besu network of DTCC were used for the transactions.

For this reason, the July work was more than just a technological sandbox. It made advantage of DTC’s production environment and adhered to a December 2025 SEC staff no action letter that allowed DTC to run a tokenization operation for three years under certain guidelines. In October, DTCC intends to provide its more comprehensive Tokenization Service. The initiative connects significant traditional and cryptocurrency companies to a shared settlement infrastructure, as crypto.news recently covered in pilot coverage.
