NEAR Protocol is strengthening its position at the intersection of blockchain and artificial intelligence with infrastructure designed to make AI systems more open, verifiable and user-centric. In addition to addressing issues with privacy, transparency, and ownership, the protocol’s AI project aims to provide consumers and developers more control over the data and computational processes involved in AI applications.

To help ensure that AI workloads are carried out safely and have not been altered, the infrastructure includes hardware-backed verification and trusted execution environments. This approach is intended to make AI computation more verifiable, particularly as businesses and developers increasingly rely on increasingly sophisticated models for applications that handle sensitive information.

NEAR’s architecture is designed to support different types of AI models, including open-source, closed-source and customized models through a common interface. The protocol is also exploring applications involving autonomous AI agents, where software can independently perform tasks, interact with blockchain networks and execute transactions.

The broader strategy reflects an expanding relationship between blockchain infrastructure and artificial intelligence. While conventional AI platforms generally operate through centralized providers, blockchain networks can provide mechanisms for ownership, verification and transparent settlement. NEAR is seeking to position its infrastructure as a foundation for applications where AI agents can interact with decentralized networks while users retain greater control over their data and digital assets.

The development also comes as competition grows among blockchain networks seeking to establish themselves as infrastructure layers for AI. By combining AI computing with blockchain-based verification and ownership, NEAR is targeting a market that could increasingly require decentralized systems capable of supporting autonomous applications.
