  • The U.S. crypto industry is projected to support 232,000 jobs and contribute more than $55 billion to the economy in 2026, according to a new NCA report.
  • The report estimates 34,000 direct crypto jobs, with thousands more created through suppliers and household spending across multiple industries.
  • Technology roles, including software engineering, blockchain development, and data engineering, remain the largest source of direct employment in the crypto sector.

The U.S. cryptocurrency market supports hundreds of thousands of jobs and is progressively boosting the country’s economy beyond companies that deal directly with digital assets.

A recent estimate by the National Cryptocurrency Association (NCA) projects that by 2026, the sector will provide 232,000 jobs in the US and contribute more than $55 billion to the country’s GDP.

The paper, which was independently prepared by the Pragmatic Policy Group (PPG), shows that the economic impact of cryptocurrencies goes far beyond mining companies, blockchain engineers, and cryptocurrency exchanges. It also reaches suppliers, service providers, and companies that profit from industry-related workers’ purchases.

The report claims that some 34,000 people in the US are directly employed by the cryptocurrency industry. Companies that supply goods and services to cryptocurrency enterprises support an additional 75,000 employment, while household spending by employees in both categories creates an additional 123,000 jobs.

This suggests that each direct crypto job contributes to the creation of jobs in a variety of sectors, including retail, logistics, hospitality, and professional services. According to Oliver Browne, Chief Economist at PPG, every direct cryptocurrency employment supports about six other jobs in the larger American economy.

Tech Roles Lead As Crypto Industry Expands U.S. Workforce

The occupations associated with the industry are also broken down in the report. With 29,260 roles, office and administrative support accounts for the biggest percentage of supported occupations. Business and financial operations come in second with 21,650 jobs, and management with 20,890, transportation and material-moving with 18,560, and food preparation and serving with 16,910 positions.

Technology continues to be the biggest employer in the cryptocurrency sector itself. There are about 10,100 direct employees in software engineering, blockchain development, and data engineering, and 5,450 in compliance, finance, and business operations. An additional 5,100 jobs are created by executive and managerial positions, which reflect the industry’s expanding operational requirements as businesses grow.

California Tops U.S. States In Crypto-supported Jobs

In addition to employment, the study projects that the cryptocurrency sector will boost the US economy by over $55 billion in 2026, with workers estimated to receive over $31 billion in compensation.

It estimates an average yearly salary of $133,000 for all supported employment; however, the research cautions that this figure includes both highly trained technical tasks and sectors like delivery, restaurant service, and cleaning work.

Geographically, California has the most crypto-supported jobs in the US (57,649), followed by New York (53,766) and Texas (26,536). Measurable economic contributions associated with the cryptocurrency industry were also reported in other states, such as Washington, North Carolina, Colorado, and North Dakota.
