MoonPay released a special app in ChatGPT Apps on Friday that lets customers purchase cryptocurrency right within OpenAI’s chatbot. MoonPay is one of the increasing number of cryptocurrency-related apps available on ChatGPT, along with Kraken, OKX, CryptoAudit, and RealOpen.
The MoonPay app allows users to buy cryptocurrency directly and seeks to educate customers in the process, while other apps in the ChatGPT store let users query blockchain data and prices.
MoonPay Blockchain Engineer and Product Lead Kevin Arifin told Decrypt, “We’ve seen this with commerce and AI, where a lot of people get shopping recommendations within ChatGPT.” “I’ve always been surprised that there hasn’t been an on-ramp where you could buy cryptocurrency within ChatGPT, and now people are starting to do financial research within ChatGPT as well.”
How To Buy Bitcoin In ChatGPT Using MoonPay?
Users can ask ChatGPT about their chosen cryptocurrency and then instruct the chatbot to purchase a specific quantity. A MoonPay checkout link will be generated by ChatGPT, directing the user to the MoonPay website to complete the Know-Your-Customer (KYC) process and link their wallet.
It functions similarly to a broker who sits by you and educates you about the asset you’re purchasing, rather than offering financial advice. It makes ChatGPT the ideal location for it, according to Arifin.
“In the long run, we’re going to see ChatGPT or these kinds of LLMs take more actions instead of just giving you that checkout link. Right now, this is just giving you the buy link to check out, similar to Shopify.”
The customer won’t need to go through the KYC process again if they have already completed it to create their MoonPay account, as Arifin clarified.
