- VanEck has launched the VanEck Wealth Builder ETF (WBMO) on the NYSE. The actively-managed fund of ETFs seeks to allocate 2% to bitcoin, within a 1% to 5% range.
- The ETF provides exposure to bitcoin via spot Bitcoin exchange traded products. The remainder of the portfolio is invested globally across equities, fixed income, gold and other real assets.
- The fund builds on VanEck’s existing Wealth Builder model portfolios previously distributed through third-party financial adviser platforms.
- BlackRock in January 2025 similarly recommended a 2% Bitcoin allocation in multi-asset portfolios, suggesting a converging institutional view on Bitcoin as a portfolio diversifier.

This fund aims to include 2% of Bitcoin exposure within its asset allocation, though this will be achieved via Bitcoin spot ETF exposure. Within the fund the Bitcoin holding should be between 1-5%, meaning that the fund manager can change the weight if they see fit.
Asset Allocation & Portfolio Composition
In addition to Bitcoin, WBMO also invests globally across equities, fixed income and gold markets. It is based around the Wealth Builder model portfolios offered by VanEck which have been made available to retail investors via third party financial adviser platforms.
However creating an ETF around these model portfolios allows them to become more widely available outside of an adviser relationship. David Schassler, VanEck’s head of multi-asset solutions, said the traditional 60/40 portfolio was built for a different investment landscape, framing WBMO as a modern alternative designed for today’s macro environment.
BlackRock Comparison & Institutional Convergence
The move by VanEck to recommend a 2% Bitcoin allocation mirrors guidance provided by BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager. In January 2025, BlackRock recommended that a 2% Bitcoin allocation was suitable for diversified multi-asset portfolios.
As two of the largest ETF providers in the industry are now recommending this approach, it shows that there is some consensus within the industry.
VanEck was one of the first asset managers to gain SEC approval for a spot Bitcoin ETF in the US meaning they have significant experience creating products to give exposure to Bitcoin in a regulated product for both institutional and retail investors.
