Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek has rolled out its V4 Pro model as competition between Chinese and U.S. AI companies continues to intensify.
The latest model is designed to deliver stronger performance in reasoning, coding, tool use and AI-agent applications. DeepSeek has also introduced V4 Flash, a lower-cost model focused more heavily on efficiency and affordability.
V4 Pro is aimed at more demanding AI workloads where developers require stronger reasoning and autonomous capabilities. The company has increasingly focused on agentic AI, where models can perform multi-step tasks, use tools and complete complex workflows with less human intervention.
According to Reuters, DeepSeek’s V4 Pro costs $1.32 per million input tokens and $3.96 per million output tokens. That makes the Pro model substantially more expensive than V4 Flash, although it remains positioned as a relatively cost-efficient option compared with some leading international AI models.
Benchmarking has also indicated improvements in V4 Pro’s capabilities. Artificial Analysis reportedly gave the model a higher Intelligence Index score than V4 Flash, with gains in areas including coding, tool use and scientific reasoning.
DeepSeek’s latest release follows the global attention generated by its earlier reasoning models. The company has become one of China’s most closely watched AI developers as it competes with major U.S. companies.
The competition is not limited to software. Access to advanced AI chips has become a critical factor in the development of powerful models, particularly as U.S. restrictions affect China’s ability to obtain certain high-end semiconductors.
DeepSeek has therefore been working on ways to improve model efficiency while also exploring domestic AI hardware capabilities.
The V4 Pro launch demonstrates the company’s strategy of competing across several areas, including model performance, pricing, AI agents and infrastructure.
As AI moves from simple chatbots toward autonomous systems capable of performing complex tasks, agentic capabilities are becoming a major area of competition.
DeepSeek’s V4 Pro places the company firmly in that race and reinforces China’s growing role in the global artificial intelligence industry.
