Coinbase has completed its integration with crypto derivatives exchange Deribit, bringing U.S. and global derivatives markets closer together. The move will expand access to options, spot margin and unified portfolio trading. Coinbase says the new system will connect these markets through a single regulated platform and give traders access to global crypto liquidity.

Coinbase announced the development on October 7. It also said the integration creates the Coinbase Global Exchange and connects U.S. and international derivatives markets through a single regulated liquidity pool.

The new matching engine has the capacity to process more than 100,000 orders every second. It also has sub-millisecond matching latency, which means orders can be processed very quickly.

The integration gives traders access to liquidity linked to more than $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest as of September 30. Deribit itself handled more than $1 trillion in trading volume last year.

Coinbase plans to start rolling out Deribit-powered options, spot margin and unified portfolios in the coming weeks. The company says traders will be able to manage positions across different markets through one account.

The deal is particularly important for U.S. traders and institutions. Coinbase said crypto derivatives make up about 80% of global crypto trading volume, but U.S. traders previously had limited access to this global liquidity through regulated channels.

That situation changed in May 2026. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission, or CFTC, issued guidance allowing Coinbase Financial Markets to connect U.S. customers with global crypto derivatives liquidity. The guidance covers options and perpetual futures.

For institutional investors, the new setup could make trading simpler. Coinbase says institutions will no longer need several offshore entities, counterparties and separate trading platforms to access different markets.

Through Coinbase Prime, U.S. institutions will be able to access Deribit’s options and perpetual futures along with spot trading, futures, custody, financing and staking services.

Coinbase is also making changes for individual traders. Its unified account will offer cross-portfolio margin. This means traders may be able to use positions that offset each other to reduce the amount of collateral required for some trades.

The company is also introducing a strategy builder through Coinbase Advanced. Traders will be able to create multi-leg options strategies in a single step. The platform will show information such as possible profits and breakeven levels before a trade is placed.

Other tools will show options Greeks, funding costs, order depth and available liquidity.

Coinbase is also adding spot margin trading. Eligible customers will be able to borrow against their collateral, with leverage of up to 10 times on selected major assets and up to five times on other supported assets. More than 15 assets can be used as collateral.
