What’s New In CCTP On ARC
Circle expanded its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol to support native cross-chain transfers of EURC and cirBTC on its ARC blockchain, extending the protocol beyond its original USDC-only functionality.
CCTP is the most widely used cross-chain protocol, ferrying USDC safely across chains for years. We’ve opened it up to any token issuer, bringing the same safe and performant cross-chain transit to asset issuers. This a big unlock for asset issuers.

The expansion covers EURC routes across Arc, Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, and World Chain, while cirBTC transfers initially connect Arc and Ethereum only, with Gateway support for cirBTC listed as planned for a later phase.
The CCTP mechanism burns tokens on the source chain and mints native tokens on the destination, removing the need for liquidity pools and the associated price impact. Circle says ARC routes achieve sub-10-second transfer times through its Fast Transfer feature.
Third-party ERC-20 Support Via CTS
Beyond Circle’s own assets, third-party ERC-20 token issuers can integrate cross-chain functionality through the Crosschain Token Standard. CTS supports a range of issuer-controlled features including allowlists, transfer rate limits, the ability to pause transfers, contract upgrade mechanisms, and governance rule sets.

Circle does not retain override authority over CTS contracts or third-party token structures, with issuers remaining responsible for their token design and regulatory obligations. CCTP supports both the burn-and-mint model for Circle assets and a lock-and-mint model for third-party tokens, giving issuers flexibility in approach.
Gateway & cirBTC Details
Circle’s Gateway, which provides unified balance management across chains, currently supports only USDC at launch. Support for EURC and cirBTC balances within Gateway is listed as coming soon without a specific launch date. cirBTC is issued by Circle International Bermuda Limited and is backed 1:1 by native Bitcoin, offering a Circle-custodied Bitcoin wrapper designed for cross-chain DeFi use.
A Forwarding Service is also available on supported routes, allowing Circle to relay destination-chain transactions so that users may not need to hold the destination network’s native gas token to complete transfers.
