Cardano has moved closer to scaling its blockchain after the Leios proposal received strong support from delegated representatives, or DReps. The vote allows for 27.7 million ADA in treasury funding to support the network upgrade.
Cexplorer governance data shows that over 84% of DReps voted for the proposal. Leios aims to greatly improve Cardano’s transaction speed and scalability as the network plans for long-term growth.
Input Output Global, Cardano’s development company, has called Leios a key technology for reaching the blockchain’s 2030 vision. The goal is to grow from about 800,000 monthly transactions now to over 27 million in the future.
Developers are getting ready to launch the Leios public testnet on June 23, 2026. Early versions have already been tested in an alpha environment.
The treasury funding will support development through this and the next budget cycle. The project will go through several readiness stages before reaching the mainnet, and Input Output says the upgrade could be fully operational on Cardano later this year.
Besides Leios, other proposals were approved, covering network maintenance, developer experience and upgrades to the Plutus smart contract system. The Pogun proposal, which focused on Bitcoin DeFi, did not get enough votes.
Cardano’s ADA token had a small market reaction after the governance vote. It saw a slight daily gain but is still much lower for the year due to overall crypto market volatility.
This approval shows that decentralized governance is becoming more important in major blockchain ecosystems. Community-backed treasury systems now play a key role in setting technical development priorities.
