Major Layer-1 blockchains have seen a 255% rise in activity, with BNB Chain experiencing the largest monthly increase in active addresses. As of August 11, 2026, 40 Layer-1 networks collectively have 131 million monthly active addresses, according to Token Terminal.

With over 41.7 million active addresses, or 31.8% of the total, BNB Chain was in first place. With 32.7 million, Solana came in second, followed by Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tron with 18.9 million, 10.3 million, and 9 million, respectively. These figures demonstrate robust yet uneven development across the major networks.

BNB Chain is in the lead as blockchains compete for users, developers, and new applications. Token Terminal reports that over the preceding 30 days, BNB Chain’s monthly active addresses rose by 2.3%.

Solana was placed second on this criterion even tho its monthly active addresses decreased by 7.5% over the time. While Bitcoin and Ethereum increased by 8.3% and 7.5%, respectively, Tron only increased by 0.4%. There was a lot of activity on other networks as well. There were around 4.5 million active addresses for Litecoin each month, 4.3 million for Polygon, 1.5 million for Avalanche, and 1.4 million for TON.

The reduced transaction costs of BNB Chain may contribute to its excellent performance. The network’s median costs often range from $0.01 to $0.10, making frequent transactions affordable for consumers.

In order to enhance performance, particularly quicker block times, the network underwent upgrades in 2025 and 2026. Applications that require frequent blockchain interactions may find BNB Chain more enticing as a result of these modifications. Still, address data alone does not prove that lower fees or faster transactions caused the recent increase in activity.

BNB Chain has also kept growing its ecosystem, with new developments in stablecoins, decentralized applications, and access for institutions.

Other prominent blockchains present a less uniform picture. With 32.7 million monthly active addresses, Solana is still a significant participant, but its recent fall shows that activity may move fast across networks.

Daily activity on Ethereum has also increased recently. On August 9, Santiment statistics revealed 989,500 daily active addresses, the most since March. However, it is not appropriate to directly compare this daily statistic with Token Terminal’s monthly active address count.

While monthly numbers offer a more comprehensive picture of engagement over a longer time frame, daily activity might catch short-term increases. As a result, these metrics can provide distinct insights about network usage.
