BlackRock Canada has introduced two new exchange-traded funds on the Toronto Stock Exchange, one of which contains a 3% Bitcoin allocation in addition to global stocks. 97% of the iShares Equity + Bitcoin ETF Portfolio, or IBQT, is invested in Canadian, American, foreign, and emerging-market stocks, with the remaining 3% being exposed to Bitcoin. The second fund, the iShares Core MSCI All-International Equity Index ETF, or XINT, offers exposure to thousands of companies across developed and emerging markets outside Canada and the U.S.

IBQT is designed for investors who want exposure to traditional equities while also adding a relatively small Bitcoin allocation to their portfolio. Instead of buying individual stocks directly, the fund mainly invests in other iShares ETFs to gain exposure to different equity markets.

Its Bitcoin exposure comes through BlackRock’s Canadian iShares Bitcoin ETF, which trades on Cboe Canada. This gives investors access to Bitcoin through a traditional exchange-traded fund structure rather than requiring them to hold the cryptocurrency directly.

The second fund, XINT, tracks the MSCI ACWI ex North America IMI Index. With the exception of the US and Canada, it offers exposure to over 5,000 businesses in up to 40 major and emerging regions.

BlackRock Asset Management Canada oversees both ETFs via its partnership with RBC iShares. With this announcement, BlackRock’s expanding line of exchange-traded funds now includes another Bitcoin-related financial product.

As of June 30, BlackRock said that its iShares division was in charge of over 1,700 ETFs with assets totaling over $6.2 trillion. The massive asset management company is now a significant participant in the spot Bitcoin ETF market in the United States. Its U.S.-listed iShares Bitcoin Trust, known as IBIT, is the largest spot Bitcoin ETF in the United States by assets under management. According to CoinMarketCap data cited in the report, IBIT had around $47.9 billion in assets under management.

The launch of IBQT is notable because it combines Bitcoin with a diversified equity portfolio rather than offering investors pure crypto exposure. A 3% allocation also means that movements in Bitcoin should have a smaller impact on the overall portfolio than they would in a fund focused heavily on the cryptocurrency.

For traditional investors, the product offers another route to gaining limited Bitcoin exposure while keeping most of their money invested in conventional equity markets.
