- The Web3 platform now has new leadership thanks to BabyDoge’s acquisition of LimeWire.
- As LimeWire enters its next stage of expansion, Abel Czupor will serve as its leader.
- While BabyDoge claims to have a community of over 3 million, the site is said to service about 8 million monthly users.
- Rather than functioning as a conventional corporate parent, BabyDoge will provide LimeWire with infrastructure and community assistance.
The BabyDoge team announced the acquisition on Sept. 14, marking a new chapter for LimeWire under Abel Czupor. The deal follows the departure of brothers Julian and Paul Zehetmayr, who acquired LimeWire’s intellectual property and spent the past five years rebuilding the platform and its infrastructure.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
LimeWire said its existing LMWR token will continue serving as the platform’s native utility token. The token will support services including decentralized file storage and access to LimeWire’s AI tools.
BabyDoge Backs LimeWire’s Next Creator-focused Chapter
Under the new arrangement, BabyDoge will provide infrastructure and community support as Czupor leads LimeWire into its next stage.
The Zehetmayr brothers acquired LimeWire’s intellectual property before relaunching the brand in 2022. The platform first came back to the market as a music-based NFT marketplace, giving users the chance to buy and sell collectibles linked to music.
These items featured special edition releases, unheard demos, extra tracks and digital products.
The brothers said they spent years rebuilding the platform and developing infrastructure designed to support a large user base. They now believe the combination of LimeWire’s foundation and BabyDoge’s community can help the brand reach a broader audience.
LimeWire Shifts Focus To AI, Web3 Storage & Digital Creators
Czupor said LimeWire currently serves around 8 million users each month. BabyDoge, meanwhile, claims a community of more than 3 million users across its ecosystem.
Rather than positioning BabyDoge as a traditional corporate parent, Czupor described the project as a “DAO-style backer” supporting LimeWire’s independence and continued development.
The acquisition also shifts LimeWire’s focus beyond its earlier NFT and music-marketplace strategy. The platform is placing itself in the growing digital creator economy by focusing on decentralized storage, artificial intelligence technologies and services for creators.
The purchase gives BabyDoge access to a brand that’s well known and has a presence that reaches consumers, a brand that started in the early days of the internet.
For LimeWire, the deal brings a new source of infrastructure and community support as it looks to expand its user base and product offering.
