Elon Musk has outlined an ambitious plan to construct AI infrastructure in space by merging his rocket company SpaceX with his artificial intelligence company xAI.
Musk said that Earth-based data centers will find it difficult to meet the enormous energy and cooling demands necessary for sophisticated AI systems when he announced the arrangement.
Musk claims that depending only on terrestrial infrastructure may put increasing pressure on the environment and local residents.
He proposed that the only practical long-term route to scale is through solar-powered space-based AI systems. He believed that even utilising a little portion of the sun’s energy might significantly reduce the amount of electricity used by humans today.
A report by Bloomberg says that the combined business may be valued at over $1.25 trillion when it goes public. It also mentions that SpaceX and xAI were valued at over $800 billion and $230 billion, respectively, in recent fundraising rounds.
The merger shows that Musk wants to combine AI with space technology to change how and where we build future AI systems, though we don’t yet have many details on how or when this will happen.
