Ola adopts ‘Made For India’ Approach With AI

Ola co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal has unveiled Krutrim, its first family of multilingual AI models. The company will come in two sizes: a base model trained on 2 trillion tokens and unique datasets, and a larger, more complex model called Krutrim Pro, which will launch early next year for advanced problem-solving and task execution capabilities.

Aggarwal previewed an AI chatbot powered by Krutrim, which can understand 22 Indian languages and generate text in 10 Indian languages.

The team is based in India and the Bay Area. Launched in April 2023, Krutrim Si Designs was established by Aggarwal and Krishnamurthy Venugopala Tenneti, a board member of ANI Technologies Ltd, which owns Ola Cabs and Ola Electric.

The launch follows Sarvam’s launch of OpenHathi, the first Hindi large language model, and a recent $41 million fundraise from prominent investors.
