Govt Mulling GPU Cluster To Boost AI Startups
According to Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the government is preparing a sizable graphics processing unit (GPU) cluster under the India AI programme to support startups looking to train artificial intelligence models in the nation.
In order to train neural networks for image and video processing, a GPU cluster is a collection of computers with GPUs on each node.
The government is offering a Rs 1,100- 1,200 crore design-linked incentive scheme to support startups and foreign companies in developing domestic intellectual property in chip design for AI applications. Chandrasekhar, speaking in Delhi, emphasized that the groundbreaking of a semiconductor packaging and assembling plant in Gujarat’s Sanand will signal to other chip companies and investors that India is more seriously involved in the global electronics value chain. The government will also notify the Data Protection Board and release the DPDP Act rules in a month.
