UK MPs Call For Global Alliance To Tackle AI Misuse
UK MPs have urged the government to collaborate with democratic allies to combat potential AI misuse. The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee (SITC) recommended aligning with countries with democratic values to safeguard against actors who misuse AI for their objectives, regardless of state affiliation. London aims to be a key player in advancing AI technology.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak plans to convene a summit in November at Bletchley Park to establish guidelines for AI, allowing the UK to regulate and become a central hub for the industry. The report highlights AI’s potential to spread deepfakes and the risk of bad actors using AI to develop new weapons. The House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee has urged the government to abandon proposals granting AI developers unrestricted access to pre-existing music, literature, and art. The committee also cautions that exempting AI-driven text and data mining from copyright protections could diminish the value of arts and culture, relegating them to mere resources for AI advancement.
