Meghalaya To Clean Umiam Lake Using AI-Powered Boat
According to an official, the Meghalaya government intends to utilize an AI-powered robotic boat to clean the picturesque Umiam lake, which is being destroyed by plastic rubbish.
He claimed that the Umkhrah and Umshyrpi rivers, which pass through the state capital Shillong, transport tons of plastics every day and dump them into the lake’s southern region, which can only be reached by boat.
“We were amazed by ClearBot’s display. The Health Secretary Ram Kumar, the Nodal Officer for the Smart Village Movement, told PTI that they have proven they can clean the trash in the most cost-effective manner.
ClearBot, a Hong Kong-based company, demonstrated a self-driving boat collecting 200 kg of waste in a single session. The company was shortlisted by the Smart Village Movement, a non-profit organization working with the state government. Co-founder Siddhant expressed his hope that the small boat could clear Umiam lake, one of the dirtiest water bodies, in a few months. If the larger boat is put into action, the entire mess will be cleared in a few months.
