Secret Service & FBI Response
The US Secret Service confirmed on Nov. 1 they had collaborated with industry partners to seize a significant amount of assets stolen during the Binance hack. They did not specify a figure but have been reported to have seized approximately $3 billion by crypto.news.
Thank you, @SecretService, and all the agencies and industry partners involved. You acted within minutes to help track and freeze stolen funds, and the work continues.
Your speed, expertise, and dedication helped contain the damage and reduce the risk of potential ripple effects across crypto and, may I say, even the broader financial markets.
Deeply grateful. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

On Nov. 2, Changpeng Zhao took to the X platform to thank the Secret Service, FBI, IRS Criminal Investigation and partner firms for their swift action and expertise. He said it had helped limit the damage caused by the hack.
The October 29 Hack & Attribution
The attack on Binance Global on October 29 resulted in approximately $6.3 billion in stolen assets across 10 blockchain networks, with most of the funds moved within roughly 20 minutes. TRM Labs estimated the total at $6.36 billion.
On October 31, the FBI formally attributed the theft to North Korea’s TraderTraitor group, publishing Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana addresses linked to the attackers.
Binance’s preliminary investigation suggests a DevOps engineer’s laptop was compromised, giving access to an internal service container used for withdrawal transactions. Chainalysis linked North Korean hackers to approximately 89% of all 2026 crypto theft losses.
Recovery Efforts & User Compensation
Recovery efforts are ongoing, with multiple federal agencies including the DOJ’s CCIPS and National Security Division involved. Binance has confirmed that it will cover the losses incurred by users of the exchange using company funds, the Secure Asset Fund for Users and the insurance fund.
This depends on how much can be recovered. The attack itself was larger than the roughly $1.5 billion stolen from Bybit back in February 2025. It is the largest hacking incident of any crypto exchange in history.
