Blockchain.com has applied to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for regulatory approvals that would enable the firm to provide event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives to retail and institutional clients in the United States.
Blockchain.com Seeks CFTC Approval For U.S. Derivatives
According to a CNBC report published on October 9, the digital asset platform is looking for designation as a contract market and registration as a futures commission merchant. Contract-market designation would license the company to operate a futures exchange, while futures commission merchant registration would consent it to act as a broker for derivatives contracts.
The filings cover prediction-market event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives. However, both applications remain imminent, and the company has not publicized a U.S. launch date.
Move Follows International Prediction Market Push
Blockchain.com is set to expand its range of prediction-market products in response to growing demand, and the company has acquired the Polymarket protocol to facilitate this growth.

In July 2026, Blockchain.com Group Holdings reported the acquisition of Polymarket, making it possible for traders to speculate on sporting events, political events, economic developments, and entertainment outcomes in regulated markets. The integration is available in supported international jurisdictions, including the European Union, but is not available in the United States.
Before integrating Polymarket, Blockchain.com’s prediction-market products were limited to SnapMarkets, launched in May. That service allowed users to speculate on short-term cryptocurrency price movements.
Regulatory Scrutiny Keeps U.S. Launch Uncertain
The company’s U.S. applications come as regulators examine how event contracts should operate within existing derivatives rules. On September 22, 2026, the CFTC’s Division of Market Oversight issued a staff advisory concerning event contracts linked to individuals’ statements, appearances, attendance or interactions.
Regulatory approval would be a key step in enabling Blockchain.com to offer these products in the U.S. market. Until the CFTC acts on the applications, however, the proposed services remain subject to regulatory review, and no U.S. launch can be assumed.
