  • As part of its V4 rollout, Aave intends to build an RWA lending hub on Avalanche.
  • Tokenized financial assets could be used as collateral for stablecoin borrowing in the envisaged market.
  • The RWA Hub’s first dollar liquidity asset will be Tether’s USAT. Eligible RWAs, loan-to-value ratios, liquidation guidelines, custody information, and a debut date have not yet been revealed by Aave.

Aave is expanding its push into real-world asset (RWA) lending with a proposed market on Avalanche that would allow eligible tokenized financial assets to be used as collateral for stablecoin borrowing.

The proposal, announced by Aave on X on September 16, is part of its Aave V4 deployment on Avalanche. Tether’s USAT is planned as the initial dollar liquidity asset for the new RWA Hub. Aave has not yet disclosed which tokenized assets would qualify as collateral or when the market could launch.

Tokenized RWAs Could Become Aave’s New Collateral

Aave’s lending markets have largely relied on crypto assets as collateral. The proposed RWA Hub would extend that model to tokenized financial assets.

Under the planned structure, eligible tokenized assets could be deposited as collateral while borrowers access stablecoin liquidity. This could connect tokenized funds, private credit products, treasury-related assets and other financial instruments with onchain lending. However, RWA-backed lending introduces additional considerations that do not always apply to traditional crypto collateral.

The market would need clear processes for asset valuation, legal ownership, custody, transfers and liquidation. Aave has not yet explained how these mechanisms would work.

Tether’s USAT Set As Initial Liquidity

Aave said USAT, Tether’s dollar-backed stablecoin designed for the U.S. market, is planned to provide the initial dollar liquidity for the RWA Hub. The protocol has not disclosed the amount of USAT liquidity planned for launch or whether additional stablecoins could be added later.

The proposed setup would separate the two sides of the market: tokenized financial assets would serve as collateral, while USAT would provide the stablecoin liquidity used for borrowing.

Aave V4 Already Running On Avalanche

The proposed RWA market would operate through Aave V4, which is already deployed on Avalanche. Aave said its V4 deployment has recorded more than $20 million in deposits since launching roughly two months ago. That figure covers the broader V4 deployment and does not represent capital allocated to the proposed RWA Hub.

The plan comes as tokenization expands across government securities, investment funds and private credit. Bringing these assets onchain can make them easier to integrate with blockchain-based financial applications, but their underlying legal and operational structures remain important.

Aave has yet to announce the RWA Hub’s loan-to-value ratios, borrowing limits, liquidation rules, custody arrangements or eligible collateral.

Those details will be important because some tokenized assets may have limited secondary-market liquidity, potentially making collateral liquidation more complex.
