  • Chainlink and Bottomline collaborate to investigate cross-border and cross-chain blockchain-based payments.
  • Over 600 financial clients are served by Bottomline, which handles over $16 trillion in yearly payment transactions.
  • Bottomline’s current systems will be connected to both public and permissioned blockchains using Chainlink’s interoperability technology.

Bottomline is integrating Chainlink’s interoperability infrastructure to connect banks with public and private blockchains, creating new possibilities for cross-border and cross-chain payments.

Bottomline is a company that helps with systems. It has joined forces with Chainlink to look into using blockchain for payments. This is for its group of over 600 banks. The news came out on September 3. Bottomline handles more than $16 trillion in payments every year through its big systems.

The partnership aims to connect this established financial infrastructure with blockchain networks without requiring banks to make major changes to their existing systems.

Chainlink To Connect Banks With Blockchain Networks

Under the partnership, Chainlink will serve as an interoperability and orchestration layer between Bottomline’s existing technology and public or permissioned blockchain networks.

The integration is designed to allow financial institutions to access on-chain payment capabilities while continuing to use familiar operational processes. Banks will have the ability to connect with distributed ledger networks using the ISO 20022 messaging standards and a single connectivity layer that works with any network.

This method may help lower some of the challenges that financial institutions encounter when looking into blockchain-based payments.

CCIP & CRE Power Cross-chain Transactions

Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) will support the movement of tokenized value between different blockchain networks.

Meanwhile, the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) will manage payment workflows, transaction routing, and operational state changes. Together, the technologies aim to build a coordinated infrastructure for institutional blockchain transactions.

The partnership focuses on challenges that come with cross‑border payments, such as many intermediaries, slow reconciliation and limited compatibility between different networks.

Chainlink Expands Institutional Blockchain Adoption

The Bottomline partnership comes as Chainlink expands its role across institutional and government blockchain initiatives. On September 2, the Wyoming Stable Token Commission selected Chainlink Proof of Reserve to provide automated audit data for FRNT, Wyoming’s dollar-pegged stablecoin. The implementation is designed to support continuous reserve monitoring and token supply verification.

Chainlink has also been involved in bringing official U.S. economic data on-chain. The U.S. Department of Commerce initiated a project to publish key economic indicators across 10 public blockchain networks using Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure.

The data includes real GDP, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers.
