The U.S. Department of Commerce is bringing official US GDP and inflation data to public blockchains through Chainlink, giving blockchain applications access to economic figures from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The programme covers 10 blockchain networks and includes feeds for real GDP, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers. The data will be updated according to the BEA’s regular release schedule, allowing blockchain applications to access official economic figures as they are published.

The programme initially covers six data feeds across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Linea, Mantle, Optimism, Sonic and ZKsync.

Real GDP measures the value of goods and services produced by the US economy after accounting for changes in prices. Chainlink will provide both the current GDP level and the quarterly change at an annualised rate.

The PCE Price Index measures changes in the prices consumers pay for goods and services. It is closely watched by financial markets because the Federal Reserve uses PCE as its preferred inflation measure when assessing its 2% inflation goal. The Chainlink feeds will provide both the current PCE index level and the quarter-over-quarter change at an annualised rate.

The third measure, Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers, provides information about spending by US consumers and private businesses. Together, the three measures give blockchain applications access to information covering economic growth, inflation and private-sector spending.

Chainlink’s role is to connect information from outside a blockchain with applications operating on the blockchain. Its oracle infrastructure means developers can access the economic data without manually transferring figures from government releases onto individual networks.

This could open the door to new financial applications that respond to economic data. Developers could potentially use GDP or inflation figures in prediction markets, trading products, inflation-linked assets and other blockchain-based financial applications.

The data will follow the BEA’s existing publication schedule. Some information is released monthly, while other figures are published quarterly. Chainlink’s feeds will be updated as new official data becomes available.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described the initiative as a way of making US economic information broadly accessible through blockchain technology.

The effort builds on an initiative first announced in August 2025, when the Commerce Department worked with Chainlink and Pyth Network to bring selected BEA data onchain.

The department has also explored placing economic information on other blockchain networks. A separate initiative brought second-quarter 2025 GDP data to networks including Bitcoin and Solana, although Chainlink was not involved in that particular effort.

Chainlink is already involved in other blockchain-based financial applications. Its data infrastructure supports Coinbase Tokenized Stocks on Base, where price feeds are used for tokenized shares such as NVDAc, AAPLc, METAc and GOOGLc in decentralised finance applications.

The latest initiative gives developers access to another important category of real-world information. Economic statistics are closely followed by investors, businesses and policymakers, and making official figures available on public blockchains could create new ways for financial applications to use that information.

With the latest rollout, US government economic data is becoming part of the growing connection between traditional financial information and blockchain-based markets.
