Winklevoss Asset Services has filed an application with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for launching a spot Zcash ETF. The company plans to list the ETF on the Nasdaq stock exchange. The ticker for the ETF will be WINK.
The fund will hold Zcash (ZEC) directly. Gemini Trust Company, which is linked to the Winklevoss brothers, will keep the ZEC held by the fund. Significatly, this is the time when Zcash has seen a huge rise in price. ZEC has gained more than 735% in the past year.

The application was filed on October 6. If the SEC approves it, investors will be able to get exposure to Zcash through a normal brokerage account. They will not have to buy ZEC themselves or worry about storing the cryptocurrency.
The proposed ETF will hold actual Zcash. It will not use leverage or futures and other derivatives. Winklevoss Asset Services will manage and sponsor the fund. It will charge investors an annual fee of 0.25%.
It’s good to be back.

The filing also says that Winklevoss Capital Fund, through one or more of its affiliates, could invest up to $100 million in the ETF. However, this is not a final commitment. The company has only shown its interest in making such an investment.
The ETF will use a cash-based system for creating and redeeming shares. In simple terms, authorized participants will give cash when new ETF shares are created. They will also receive cash when they redeem their shares. They will not have to transfer ZEC themselves. Instead, the ETF will buy Zcash when it needs more coins to support the creation of new shares.
Let’s go!

Zcash is a cryptocurrency that is known for its privacy features. It uses a technology called zero-knowledge proofs. This technology can allow users to make transactions while keeping details such as the transaction amount and the identities of the sender and receiver private.
If approved, the Winklevoss ETF will become another Zcash investment product in the US market. Grayscale already has a Zcash ETF that is trading in the US. The company has also announced a three-for-one share split for its fund.
ZEC has been one of the best-performing cryptocurrencies recently. Apart from the ETF proposal, traders are also watching the upcoming NU7 network upgrade. A decision on activating the upgrade on the Zcash mainnet is expected on October 20. This gives the Zcash market another important event to watch while the ETF proposal goes through the regulatory process.
