Stability CEO Resigns From Generative AI Company

Emad Mostaque has resigned as CEO of Stability AI and from its board to pursue other ventures within the AI sector.

Stability AI, a leading generative AI company, has been plagued by reports of founder’s past claims, corporate disfunction, and high-profile departures.

The company’s board has appointed Shan Shan Wong and Christian Laforte as interim co-CEOs. Mostaque expressed pride in leading Stability to hundreds of millions of downloads and the best models across modalities and emphasized the importance of ensuring AI remains open and decentralized.

He also expressed support for decentralization efforts, stating that centralized AI cannot be beat. Stability AI is a co-creator of Stable Diffusion, a popular AI-based image generator. In October 2022, the company raised $101 million in a new round of funding at a reported valuation of more than $1 billion.
