South Korean PM Seeks Disclosure Of Crypto Holding

South Korean Prime Minister Han Deok-soo has called for high-ranking public officials to disclose and register their cryptocurrency assets, according to a local news outlet.

On May 17, the prime minister reportedly stressed the importance of including crypto assets in the property registration of high-ranking public officials during a press conference at the Sejong Government Complex.

Prime Minister Han told reporters that the issue of whether high-ranking officials should include digital currency in property registration “can be fully discussed and decided in the National Assembly.” According to the report, the prime minister shared that “Personally, I think it’s right to put it in.”

To back up his position, the prime minister drew a comparison to the registration of other valuable assets. He mentioned that registering a certain amount of precious metals is currently required, and that similar requirements for cryptocurrency holdings could be implemented.
