Grayscale has moved a step closer to launching its spot Zcash ETF on NYSE Arca after filing a fourth amendment to its Form S-3 registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The proposed Grayscale Zcash ETF would track ZEC and trade under the ticker ZCSH. The filing comes as Zcash gains attention from traders, with ZEC rising more than 2% in the past 24 hours to around $510.70. The latest update also provides new details on how shares would be created and redeemed once the proposed ETF becomes operational.
The proposed fund would be created by converting the existing Grayscale Zcash Trust into a spot exchange-traded fund. Grayscale has not yet disclosed the management fee or any potential fee waiver for the product, which would be among the first US ETFs to offer direct exposure to a privacy-focused cryptocurrency.
One notable change in the latest filing concerns the creation and redemption of ETF shares. Grayscale said the fund would primarily use cash orders for both processes. An in-kind creation option would remain available, but the updated language makes clear that the trust would not permit in-kind redemptions.
The filing also says the sponsor is in discussions with DCG International Investments Ltd, an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Grayscale parent Digital Currency Group. Under a possible contribution arrangement, the company could acquire shares through an authorised participant in exchange for 200,000 ZEC tokens. The discussions are currently non-binding.
ZEC was trading at about $510.70, with a 24-hour low of $500.47 and a high of $514.03. Despite the price increase, trading volume fell 16% over the same period.
On the technical side, ZEC is trading above its 50-day simple moving average, which is currently acting as a key support level. The $520 area has emerged as a near-term resistance level following the Ironwood upgrade. A sustained move above that level could bring the stronger $550 resistance zone into focus.
The derivatives market is showing mixed signals. CoinGlass data showed total ZEC futures open interest rising 1% over 24 hours to $928.22 billion, according to the figures provided. Open interest on Binance fell 3.90%, suggesting some profit booking, while it increased nearly 9% on Hyperliquid. Open interest also rose 3.40% on OKX and 2.18% on KuCoin.
The latest SEC filing does not guarantee that the ETF will launch, but it represents another step in Grayscale’s effort to bring Zcash exposure to the US spot ETF market. If approved and launched, ZCSH would give investors a regulated market product through which to gain exposure to ZEC without directly holding the cryptocurrency.
