The United States is preparing to launch its first Dogecoin exchange-traded fund this Thursday, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. The product, named the Rex-Osprey Doge ETF, marks the entry of the first-ever memecoin-based ETF in U.S. markets. Balchunas highlighted that the fund is structured under the Investment Company Act of 1940, a framework different from those used by Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.

Dogecoin, widely recognized as the original memecoin, surged nearly 13% over the last week ahead of the ETF’s approval, data from CoinMarketCap shows. The cryptocurrency, launched more than a decade ago, has built a loyal community and today boasts a market capitalization of around $36 billion.

While Dogecoin’s use case remains mostly speculative, its inclusion in an ETF signals that even meme-inspired digital assets can attract institutional capital. The launch follows last year’s successful rollout of spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, which opened the doors for more unconventional crypto funds.
