Base, the Layer-2 blockchain supported by Coinbase, is back to normal after a network outage stopped block production for almost two hours. This disruption paused transactions on one of Ethereum’s biggest scaling networks until developers fixed the issue. Although the blockchain is running again, the Base team is still looking into what caused the problem and has told node operators to restart their systems to get everything fully synced.
The first sign of trouble appeared around 16:03 UTC, when the Base team said block production on the mainnet was “unhealthy.” Within an hour, developers found the issue and started working on ways to fix the network. By the end of the outage, block production was back up and internal nodes were syncing as usual.
While the network was down, users could not process transactions, which affected apps built on Base. The team says the blockchain is working again, but they have not yet explained what caused the invalid block or if it was due to a software bug, consensus problem, or another technical issue.
This incident shows that even large blockchain networks still face challenges as they grow to serve more users. Layer-2 solutions like Base aim to make Ethereum faster and cheaper, so reliable networks are especially important for developers, traders, and DeFi apps.
This is not the first time Base has had problems. The network also went down in August 2025, which raises more questions about its reliability as blockchain infrastructure becomes more important for digital asset markets.
The Base team says they will keep watching network stability and keep looking into what happened. They promised to share more updates once they know the cause. For now, transactions are back to normal, so users and apps can keep working without more problems.
