Coinbase Australia has officially launched licensed perpetual contracts with up to 50x leverage for certified wholesale investors, marking the company’s first product under its Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL).

Available through the Coinbase Advanced platform, the offering includes more than 150 perpetual contracts across cryptocurrencies, equities and commodities. The launch expands Coinbase’s Australian business beyond spot trading and stablecoins into regulated crypto derivatives.

Coinbase has taken another major step in the Australian market by introducing regulated perpetual futures for professional investors. The new product is available exclusively to certified wholesale clients who meet the company’s suitability and eligibility requirements.

The launch is significant because it is the first commercial offering under Coinbase Australia’s Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), which was granted in April 2026. The licence allows the company to offer regulated financial services while complying with Australia’s conduct, governance, disclosure and consumer protection standards.

According to Coinbase, the new perpetual contracts are designed for institutional and professional traders looking for advanced trading tools. Eligible customers can access up to 50x leverage across more than 150 perpetual contracts covering digital assets, equities and commodities.

The platform also supports over 40 collateral assets and connects traders to Coinbase’s global order book liquidity. Users will have access to 24/7 trading, real-time settlement, API connectivity and a one-tap workflow that allows them to switch easily between spot markets and perpetual contracts.

According to Coinbase, the tool is intended for traders who wish to control volatility, hedge portfolios, or use more capital-efficient trading techniques. As the local cryptocurrency market develops, the business thinks Australian investors are going more and more beyond straightforward spot trading.

“The launch represents a significant leap in our Australian product suite,” Coinbase said, adding that the company is building its vision of an “Everything Exchange” in Australia and remains committed to the country’s growing digital asset market.

Additionally, the launch precedes Australia’s more extensive regulation changes pertaining to digital assets. Digital asset platforms will be entirely subject to Australia’s financial services licensing structure starting in April 2027 according to the Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Act 2026, which was approved earlier this year.

Customers were warned by Coinbase that trading futures has significant financial risk, including the potential to lose their whole trading account, despite the increase. Before making a trade, the business recommended that qualified investors thoroughly read the Financial Services Guide (FSG), Target Market Determination (TMD), and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Coinbase’s objective of growing regulated products in important international markets while adhering to current financial regulations is reflected in this move. Regulated derivatives are becoming a crucial component of the industry’s development as institutional involvement in cryptocurrency continues to rise.
