A unique Bitcoin recovery story is making headlines after a crypto user said Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, helped him recover 5 lost Bitcoin, valued at about $320,000.
The user, who goes by Cprkrn online, said he was locked out of an old wallet for over ten years after forgetting one of several complex passwords for his blockchain.info account. Over eight weeks, he used AI tools to search through years of personal files, emails, notebooks, and backup devices.
According to his social media post, Claude helped him find an old wallet backup file on a college computer and connect it with handwritten password hints from his notebooks.
After several failed attempts with password recovery tools, the assisted search finally led to the right credentials and recovered phrase.
Blockchain records show that five dormant Bitcoin were moved from the wallet earlier this week, after sitting untouched since 2015.
The story has sparked new discussion about the millions of Bitcoin thought to be permanently lost due to forgotten passwords and lost seed phrases. Some industry estimates say up to 19% of all Bitcoin may be gone for good.
Some in the crypto community said Claude mostly helped organize data and search for information, rather than actually “cracking” the wallet. Still, this case shows that AI tools are increasingly playing a real role in digital asset recovery and cybersecurity.
